Project in Nepal

Health Awareness Programme, Nepal

NRN-NL and Guide Nepal, an NGO based in Janakpur, Nepal, have agreed to implement a Health Awareness Programme in two villages of Dhanusha district in Nepal during July-August 2009. With the financial support from SEVA Network Foundation, Netherlands (www.sevanetwork.net), the programme will provide a basic health and sanitation orientation to 300 marginalized and poor residents of Benga Shivpur and Sinurjora villages, close to Janakpur. The orientation will cover the topics such as: neatness and cleanness; safe motherhood; bird flue; and first aid help. A first aid kit will also be donated to each participant. Building up on this first step, which focuses on the basic awareness regarding health/sanitation, this joint undertaking envisions to be extended in the future to encompass a full first aid course including resuscitation by involving the local Red Cross organ and to run such programmes in other villages while building the capacity of the local trainers who can give first-aid courses in the primary and secondary schools.
